The opportunity to create a safer working environment and reduce operating costs rarely presents itself but recently, AV Birch Timber Engineering delivered the all new Magna-Loc Pedestal Truss System to a leading UK truss manufacturer to enable just this.
Donaldson Timber Engineering, a roof systems specialist with facilities all over the UK, realised that the current truss manufacturing jig system was not as easy to work with as it could be and called upon AV Birch Timber Engineering to offer a solution.
The innovative Magna-Loc Pedestal system releases manufacturers from the trip hazards associated with trailing power leads on the shop floor, by using electricity free magnets and a simple lever to turn them on or off. This is not only safer but research carried out by AV Birch Timber Engineering revealed that many operators were leaving the electro-magnets powered up during downtime, consuming a significant amount of electricity.
The sustainability and ongoing maintenance of the units has also been simplified by the use of modular design. Traditionally, a welder or fabricator was required to carry out repairs to units, but the brand new system allows parts to be swapped out much more easily by in-house fitters.
All this adds up to increased efficiency and adaptability as Mr. Andrew Lee from Donaldson Timber Engineering, Cramlington commented “I like the design and flexibility of the Magna-Loc Pedestal system and I am extremely impressed at the time we are now saving on truss setups”
Scott Hayes, Director of AV Birch Timber Engineering said, “With manufacturer’s margins under constant pressure, our unique truss system can reduce downtime, making working conditions easier and of course save on their electricity bills.”
He continued, “We have received a vast influx of enquiries for new machinery which really kicked off around August last year, this indicates a considerable turn around in the market and in turn, customer’s confidence to invest in new equipment has grown. We have a full order book for the first quarter with our production running at full capacity to keep up with the growing demand. We also have some exciting new developments including our Laser setup truss system as well as an automatic length stop which are already proving very popular with our customers.”
AV Birch are also celebrating the end of a successful first year with their Lifting and Handling division, who have been supplying the timber industry with post jibs, overhead cranes and gantry systems. A recent introduction has been the development of an AV Birch fabric truss strap, makes manoeuvring the products during manufacturing and on site, much easier and safer.
